Yingling Encourages Residents to File Taxes before July 15 Deadline
07/09/2020ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With the tax deadline approaching next week, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is reminding residents to file their state and federal income taxes by July 15.
“The filing deadline for state and local income taxes, which was pushed back in an effort to provide additional financial flexibility to families during this pandemic, is rapidly approaching,” Yingling said. “With electronic filing options that allow for social distancing in place, I highly encourage residents to take the time to file their taxes as soon and as safely as possible.”
The initial tax deadline, which was April 15, was moved back 90 days by state and federal officials to provide relief to those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new filing deadline for both state and federal taxes is Wednesday, July 15. For information or help on filing taxes, Yingling is encouraging residents to visit the Illinois Department of Revenue’s website at https://www2.illinois.gov/rev/Pages/default.aspx and the Federal Internal Revenue Service at https://www.irs.gov/.
With the new Yingling-supported Illinois budget being passed, taxpayers will see their tax dollars going to numerous agencies and programs that are providing relief during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes almost $400 million in new funding for rental and mortgage relief, as well as over $700 million in additional funds for public health, with a focus on COVID-19 testing and other related services.
“Finding ways to provide financial relief has been a crucial tool to easing the many burdens this pandemic has placed on families across Illinois,” Yingling continued. “I am committed to finding additional ways to provide relief for families, and I look forward to working towards that goal.”
