ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – To honor those who have taken extraordinary actions during a challenging year, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting the 2021 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame Awards, which is accepting nominations for seniors who have made a significant impact in their community.

“During one of the most tumultuous times in recent memory, it has been incredible to see residents, many of them seniors, step up and do what they can to keep our communities supported,” said Yingling. “Dedication and commitment to serving others and improving our community is something worth celebrating, and the Senior Illinoisians Hall of Fame Awards is a great opportunity to give back and thank those who have given us all so much.”

Each year, the Senior Illinoisan Hall of Fame awards seniors who have made meaningful contributions to their community through community service, education, their profession, or artistic expression and the promotion of health and well-being. The selection is based on present and past accomplishments. Illinois residents, or those who were Illinois residents for most of their life, are eligible. Nominations will be open until June 1.

Throughout his time as state representative, Yingling has been an advocate for senior citizens. Recently, he introduced legislation to lower property tax costs for seniors by raising the maximum savings they can receive through the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption. Yingling also regularly holds events aimed at providing resources and information to seniors, including fraud prevention seminars.

“The senior community provides so much to all of us, and it is important that we do everything we can to show our appreciation and give back,” said Yingling. “I highly encourage residents to take a few moments and nominate a senior that has served their community. It is the least we can do to show our thanks to these incredible individuals.”
